How To Join
Anyone, except a member of the press, is eligible to join a Consumer Technology Association (CTA) standards committee. For members of CTA there is no charge to participate in CTA standards activities. For companies or individuals who are not members of CTA there is an annual fee for participation in CTA standards activities. Here's how to join:
Consumer Technology Association Members
Employees of companies that are members of CTA may create their own accounts and add themselves to any groups they would like to join. To create an account you must have a valid email address that uses an email domain (e.g., @yourcompany.com) that is associated with your company.
Non-Member Fee Options for Participation in CTA Standards
One of the criteria for being a full CTA member is that a company must have at least one office in North America. In contrast, participation in the CTA standards program is not limited by geography. Companies without North American offices are allowed to participate in the CTA standards program. Because of this difference in eligibility requirements there is also a difference in the way fees are calculated. CTA membership fees are based on a company's annual revenue from North America. The non-member fee for participation in the CTA standards program is based on a company's annual worldwide revenue. This difference means that some companies with at least one office in North America might find it is less expensive to become a full CTA member than it is to pay the non-member fee to participate in the CTA standards program. This could particularly be true for large companies that earn only a small percentage of their annual revenue in North America.

The following definitions apply in determining non-member type, which corresponds with CTA membership categories:
Government, academia:
Government members are participants that are employed by a government agency or acting on behalf of a government agency as a contractor. Academia members are participants that are employed by colleges and universities or that consult for colleges and universities in the pursuit of research, education, and scholarships. See the first row of the table above for associated fees.
Core Members:
Companies of any size that manufacture, sell, install or distribute consumer or enterprise technologies including internet services, software, applications and related products. A company whose core product or service involves offering a technology product or software service – even if B2B in nature – falls into this category.
Industry Associate Members:
Companies that serve the technology industry, including consultants, research analysts, venture capital firms, and any other companies or organizations that do not manufacture, sell, install or distribute consumer or enterprise technology products or services.
Non-Profit Members:
Non-profit organizations whose primary function is to provide a collective, public or social benefit (including healthcare).
CTA members are able to participate in CTA's standards program at no additional cost and receive all benefits listed on the main CTA website. If you are interested in membership rather than the non-member participation fee option, contact us for additional information or click the "Join CTA" button on the membership webpage.
